This home started as a 1970’s infill build situated in close vicinity to the main shopping precinct of Queen Street Woollahra. The property had undergone a number of cheap renovations prior to purchase, resulting in a livable but ordinary home. The original floor plan was awkward, not flowing nicely from room-to-room, nor was the house aesthetically pleasing. Upon return from the Middle East, the new owners purchased the property with grand plans in mind. Principally, they wanted to maximise the floor plate and minimise the outdoor space to reduce maintenance. The original two bedroom, two bathroom floor plate was completely disjointed with the stairs inconveniently situated in the middle of the space. The first step was to relocate the staircase which had the effect of dramatically increasing the functionality of the space. The client and Modify spent countless hours together finessing bespoke details throughout the home including handmade steel frame doors, bespoke bronze door handles, bronze balustrades and frameless skylights.
Upon completion, the home comprised three large bedrooms, the master with its own walk-in robe and ensuite, a study, main family bathroom, powder room, new sitting room, large kitchen with butlers pantry and combined laundry. All spaces were significantly increased due to the maximisation of the floor plate and repositioning of the staircase. The project was completed on budget, the owners moved in on time and are enjoying a beautifully renovated home.
