The owners of this Paddington terrace house had an expanding family and a deep desire to stay in the area. This necessitated the creation of a more functional family home, one that would be more suitable to their changing needs. The original terrace house had a kitchen and laundry to the rear which was demolished and the floor plate transformed with higher ceiling heights and a seamless floor plan. The finishes were carefully selected to be practical for a family home while maintaining a strong design edge. One particularly successful example is the wall in the open plan living space which was lined with a thick Swedish felt that not only had significant acoustic benefits, it also enables the children to pin notices and artwork in the family space. Originally there were three bedrooms, one bathroom (no parking) over two levels. The final site plan comprised a spacious, light-filled, four bedroom, two bathroom home with designer kitchen and living area with bi-fold doors to provide an indoor/outdoor space to the rear. The architect responsible for the project was Joe Snell the current judge on My House Rules. This project was completed on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction.
